The 10 most Expensive Homes in the world...

10.  Rybolovlev Estate – $95 Million

Rybolovlev-Estate
This house is the most expensive single family home in the country and, since it was owned by Donald Trump, it’s obviously the most expensive home ever fought over in a divorce case.  The 33,000 square foot oceanfront mansion has become a key part of the proceedings since Trump’s ex-wife Elena Rybolovlev demanded jurisdiction due to infidelity.
This home has 18 bedrooms, 22 bathrooms, and retails for $95 million, making it the most expensive single-family house in the nation…weird, we’re pretty sure we found nine more for this list.  Unless we’re suddenly on TopOnez.Net
Originally on sale for $125 million, it ended up being haggled down to a mere 95.  We guess the economy is hurting everyone these days.

9.  Silicon Valley Mansion — $100 Million

Silicon-Valley-Mansion
As the most expensive single-family home in the US, this house… wait, didn’t we just say that the Rybolovlev Estate was the most expensive single-family house ever?  Well, okay, this one went for 100 million so I guess it wins.
With 5 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, and an indoor and outdoor pool (in case it rains, we guess), it’s all-in-all a pretty fancy house.

8.  Fleur De Lys — 125 Million

Fleur-De-Lys
Despite being marketed as the world’s most expensive house, the Fleur De Lys somehow only falls on number 8 on our list.  Wow, that’s weird, huh?  It’s almost like people on the Internet are wrong.
Fleur De Lys has 41,000 square feet and 15 bedrooms, but apparently no bathrooms, which we think is a huge oversight either by the architect or the person writing the articles we’re using as sources.

7.  The Manor — $150 Million

Aaron-Spelling-Manor
Here we are, finally, the most expensive residential real estate listing in the US, according to Wiki-freakin’-pedia.  $150 million.  Feels pretty good to put that part to rest, doesn’t it?  Thanks, Aaron Spelling, for having the (7th) most expensive house in the world.
This house features 56,000 square feet, 123 rooms, a bowling alley, an ice rink and allegedly an entire wing devoted to Spelling’s wife’s wardrobe.

6.  The Pinnacle — $155 Million

the-pinnacle
Owned by Tim Blixseth, in Montana, this house is unique for two reasons: it has a private chair lift directly from the house to a nearby ski-resort (which Blixseth owns), and is the only house on this list so far named that doesn’t claim to be the most expensive in the world.

Also, we’re gonna call it right now: best back yard.  Because it’s a ski resort.

5.  Franchuk Villa — $161 Million

Franchuk-Villa
This five-story, freestanding 10-bedroom Victorian Villa also features an underground indoor swimming pool, panic room, and private movie theatre.  It’s also the world’s most expensive home (yeah, sure it is), at $161 million.
How fancy is this place?  Allegedly, during some remodeling, the noise made the Mayor of Moscowangry.  The house is located in London.  That’s right: the house is so fancy it doesn’t make sense.

4.  The Hearst Mansion — $165 Million

Hearst-Mansion
Top Three Facts about the Fourth Most Expensive House in the World: it was used in The Godfather, JFK spent his honeymoon there, and (holy crap, get this): it’s the most expensive home in the US!
It features three swimming pools, 29 bedrooms (you have to supply your own horse heads har har har), movie theater and, for some reason, a disco.

3.  Fairfield Pond — $198 Million

Fairfield-Pond-Mansion
Currently valued that way due to its property taxes, this 66,000 square-foot main house has a basketballcourt, bowling alley, and a $150,000 hot tub. The most valuable home in the US (again, according toWikipedia).

2.  Villa Leopolda — $736 Million

villa_leopolda
Wow, that’s a big jump in price.  Built by King Leopold II of Belgium in 1902 and located on the French Riviera, this home was purchased by Russian billionaire Prokhorov, who is so rich he lost billions to the latest economic collapse and still had enough fun money to buy himself a three-quarter-billion-dollar summer home.  It has 27 stories, 19 bedrooms, and a rumored 50 full-time gardeners.

1.  Antilla – $1,000,000,000

Antilla
This is it. The one you’ve been waiting for. The grand finale. The one billion dollar home. We give you…Antilla, the actual most expensive house in the world…finally.
Located in Mumbai, Antilla challenges pretty much everything you’d expect about “what is possible in a home” and “what is possible for architecture.”  The 27-story house features six floors of parking, a health level with a jacuzzi, gym, and “ice room,” a ballroom level (for dancing?) several floors of bedrooms and bathrooms and even a four-story garden — because, yeah, we guess that’s possible.
The architecture is based on an Indian tradition called Vastu Shastra, which is supposed to be conducive to the movement of positive energy.  In keeping with this, each floor has not only a unique design, but an entirely unique set of materials and aesthetic design — meaning each room is meant to look like it’s from a different house.
Basically, this house has everything — things you can imagine, things you can’t imagine, and things you never thought to imagine but are now imagining because they sound like the greatest thing you’ve ever heard.

The Worlds Strongest Magnet

So the the earth's strongest magnet is not the earth, but in fact is a giant bomb looking thing. But, how strong is the earths magnetic field to begin with?
The Earth's magnetic field varies depending on your location on the Earth's surface. In regions near the magnetic poles, such as Siberia, Canada, and Antarctica, it can exceed 60 microteslas (0.6 gauss), whereas in regions farther away, such as South America and South Africa, is around 30 microteslas (0.3 gauss).
Now that we know that, how strong is the magnet?
The world’s strongest magnet has been created and sits in the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University. According to researchers, it has the potential to revolutionize scientific research. The custom built split magnet took $2.5 million to complete, and operates at 25 Tesla – which is 500,000 times stronger than our planet’s magnetic field. If are ever caught in one of these devices, let’s just say you probably won’t live to tell the tale.

The Worlds Longest river...

The Worlds longest river is the Nile river. Here are some of the facts...

  • The length of the Nile River is approximately 6650 kilometres (4132 miles). It is believed to be the longest river in the world.
  • Located in Africa, the Nile River lies in the following countries: Kenya, Eritrea, Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.
  • The Nile River has huge significance in regards to Ancient Egypt. Most of Ancient Egypt’s historical sites are located along the banks of the Nile River including cities such as Luxor and Cairo.
  • In 2004, the White Nile Expedition became the first to navigate the entire length of the Nile River. The expedition began in Uganda and finished in Rosetta, taking four months and two weeks to complete.
  • The Nile Delta in Northern Egypt is where the Nile River drains in to the Mediterranean Sea. It is around 160 kilometres (100 miles) in length and spreads out over 240 kilometres (149 miles) of coastline. It is rich in agriculture and has been farmed for thousands of years.
  • Around 40 million people (half of Egypt’s population) live in the Nile Delta region.
  • In 1787, the famous Rosetta stone was found in the Nile Delta in the city of Rosetta. This Ancient Egyptian artifact played a key role in modern understanding of Egyptian hieroglyphics.
  • The Aswan High Dam was built in 1970 to help regulate flooding of the Nile River. Before the Aswan Dam was built, years that featured high levels of water could wipe out crops while years of low level water could produce famines and drought. The dam helps control these water levels.

The Largest Cathedral in the World

Ironically the largest church in the world is located in the smallest country in the world as St. Peter's Basilica is in Vatican City which is considered its own country. St. Peter's Basilica is a magnificent structure built from 1506-1626 by a number of different architects including Michelangelo who designed the dome. St. Peter's is a Roman Catholic church and can hold some 60,000 people. It is certainly one of the most famous buildings in the world and one of the most visited by tourists and worshipers. Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil - 129,000 square feet

I personally think this one is much prettier and boasts more masterfulness.
Milan Cathedral in Italy - 91,000 square feet

Worlds Smallest Church

Since it is Sunday, i was curious as to what was the worlds smallest church. And i found this...

The World's Smallest Church, Cross Island Chapel, still sits in the center of a pond on the northern edge of town. A small billboard near the road details everything you need to know: Built in 1989. What's the Total Value of the World's Sunken Treasure?

Ship hunting is told to be a semi-tedious but very adventurous job. What do people look for when they look for ships? Treasure. Thousands of ships have sunk to the bottom of the ocean, carrying their costly booty.
The team that announced the discovery of the Port Nicholson, a World War II–era British merchant ship found 50 miles off the coast of Maine, says it bore 71 tons of platinum ingots worth about $3 billion. Think of all the other lost ships of myth, and their overflowing treasures. So what is the total value of all this sunken glory? The short and skinny of it is that it is estimated to be 60 billion dollars worth. Impressive to say the least.

The Deepest Hole in the World

The deepest hole in the world is on the Kola peninsula of Russia near the Norwegian border. This hole is being drilled for scientific study purposes and is currently over 12,200 meters deep.
This discovery has an impact on geophysical sciences and there is a potential economic impact. This water is very highly mineralized, and is a primary concentrating agent for most ore deposits. The technology for mining at these depths is not yet available. In order to get their single drill hole down as far as they did, the Soviets had to resort to experimental methods. Their chief innovation was that, instead of turning the drill bit by rotating the stem, in the Kola well the bit alone was turned by the flow of drilling mud.

The 6 Rarest Cars in the World

So, I love fast cars and more importantly, rare cars. These are the 6 Rarest cars in the world.

Price

The actor James Coburn’s 1961 Ferrari 250GT Spyder sold in 2008 at an incredible $10.9 million, which makes it the most expensive car ever. Only 36 units were built, so while it does not make the car very rare, its price does. The Spyder was considered to be one of the best-looking cars ever built, and looks similar to James Bond’s Jaguar.

Next is the 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe, which sold at a whopping $9.7 million in 1987in a Christie’s Albert Hall auction. (It may be worth double that today.) The car boasts of a 12.7-liter aircraft engine. Only six were built, which makes it truly rare.

Number

In terms of numbers built for a stock car, the 1967 and the 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T Convertibles top the list. Only two were built for each model.  Of course, many racing cars were of single-car editions, but they were built for other purposes than selling to the public.

American Muscle

This means the rarest and most powerful American stock cars, and the best were the 1969 ZL1 Camaro, and the 1968 L88 Corvette.  The Camaro packs 500 horses under its hood that enables it to accelerate from 0 to 60 miles in 5.3 seconds, making it a popular muscle car for drag racing.
Meanwhile the Corvette has an engine made for racing that produces 550 horsepower and pushes the car to 170mph top speed. Because General Motors does not want this car on the road due to its muscle, it was offered without the airconditioning or radio as standard features.

Futurism

Among the American cars that were considered ‘advanced’ in design in their time, two concept cars come to mind: the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 and the 1938 Phantom Corsair.  The F-88 was built by General Motor’s Oldsmobile Division and was a radical departure from the trend at the time.  It sat low, had pigskin upholstery, large front grill, the rear deck was unusual, and it has a 250-hp V8 ‘Rocket’ engine. Only one was built, although three other versions followed, but these were different from the original.

Meantime, the Corsair was anti-trending in that it was a completely closed car; even the front wheels were covered. The nose was lowered, the headlights were small and its body was made of beaten aluminum. Entry was electrically controlled via panels above the windows.

Do we really know earth?

The ocean is the lifeblood of Earth, covering more than 70 percent of the planet's surface, driving weather, regulating temperature, and ultimately supporting all living organisms. Yet for all of our reliance on the ocean, 95 percent of this realm remains unexplored, unseen by human eyes. Watch the video below to see nature in the deeps.

I got this info from http://oceanservice.noaa.gov and youtube.

Most Earth like Planets yet....

They’re not quite Earth’s twins, but they might be its big sisters. Two planets slightly larger than Earth have been found by NASA’s Kepler space telescope. The planets circle their star at a distance seemingly just right for life. Kepler’s latest discovery is a five-planet system around a star called Kepler-62, some 1,200 light-years away in the constellation Lyra.  The inner three worlds are too hot for life, but planets Kepler-62e and Kepler-62f are far more accommodating. They are 1.6 and 1.4 times the diameter of Earth, respectively, and their orbits are within the boundaries of the habitable zone in which scientists think liquid water could exist..... This is really exciting, although very far away, it would be way cool to explore a distant and wild planet. This sparks my interest because our planet is the biggest rock planet in our solar system. So could this planet really be made out of rock?

First post

Hello, his is my first official post and I hope I will have enough time to post more. So, the first of my accumulated knowledge is this.... Exposure to radioactive material released into the environment has caused mutations in butterflies found in Japan, a study suggests. Two months after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident in March 2011, a team of Japanese researchers collected 144 adult pale grass blue (Zizeeria maha) butterflies from 10 locations in Japan, including the Fukushima area. By comparing mutations found on the butterflies collected from the different sites, the team found that areas with greater amounts of radiation in the environment were home to butterflies with much smaller wings and irregularly developed eyes. "It has been believed that insects are very resistant to radiation," said lead researcher Joji Otaki from the University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa.
"In that sense, our results were unexpected," he told BBC News...... wow this is really weird because the effects of radiation are actually showing by mutating butterfly s. I would think that there are many more animals by that site that have grown ligaments/improved senses. Makes you scratch your head and wonder just how far radiation could be taken to create something entirely new. If insects are supposedly resistant, then why have they grown? I don't know but this is definitely something for the metaphorical bookshelf.
